Following its release, GPT-6 Astra has demonstrated impressive performance in robotic manipulation, igniting heated industry discussions—with some even claiming that "VLA is dead; the Robot RSI era has arrived." As for whether its robotics capabilities stem from emergent general intelligence or from specialized training, a kinematics test conducted across 50 open-source and closed-source models revealed that three models—GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and Gemini Argon—exhibit overfitting to the Franka Panda robotic arm: they have memorized the kinematic knowledge of a specific robot but have not mastered transferable general kinematic principles. The research suggests that the outstanding performance of general large models on robotics tasks does not equate to having developed physical intelligence that can transfer across different robot embodiments, and the technological pathway forward remains to be explored.
