On November 6, European equities declined in tandem with global markets, surrendering all of the week's gains. Fears that the Democratic Party's sweep of the U.S. Congress could weigh on AI-related trades sparked broad-based selling across sectors. The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell 1.3%, with basic resources leading the decline, while real estate and telecom stocks held up relatively better. Still, the pullback in Europe was modest compared with the overnight selloff in Asian and U.S. markets. Guillermo Hernandez Sampere, head of trading at MPPM, said the market is beginning to feel the strain of excessive weighting in the AI sector and expects capital reallocation to continue, with volatility likely to stay elevated in the coming days—though he does not currently see a high risk of a prolonged correction. Stephane Boujnah, CEO of Euronext, said Europe remains an attractive investment destination, calling it a place worth investing in during these turbulent times and, in terms of return and risk, a very safe market.
