On November 6, the U.S. stock market experienced a widespread sell-off, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index and Nasdaq-100 Index leading the downturn. The S&P 500 fell 2.7%, the Nasdaq dropped about 4%, and the Nasdaq-100 declined 4.52%. The S&P 500 breached both its 100-day moving average and September lows, while the Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq-100 both fell below their 200-day moving averages; a short-term rebound would require reclaiming these key technical levels. The AI supply chain saw a broad-based sell-off, with losses spreading from chips and storage to data center networking equipment, optical communications, AI cloud computing, and power suppliers. Storage stocks SanDisk, Western Digital, Micron Technology, and SK Hynix all fell over 10%; chip stocks AMD, Qualcomm, and Arm dropped more than 10%; data center connectivity and optical communications stocks Astera Labs, Lumentum, Coherent, Credo, and Marvell Technology each declined over 10%; semiconductor equipment stocks Lam Research and Applied Materials fell more than 10%; AI cloud computing and data center power suppliers Nebius, CoreWeave, and Bloom Energy also dropped over 10%, with Bloom Energy and SanDisk down nearly 18%. Market breadth deteriorated in tandem, with decliners outnumbering advancers by nearly 4 to 1 on the Nasdaq, about 2.5 to 1 on the NYSE, and roughly 1.6 to 1 on the S&P 500, indicating that the sell-off has spread from large-cap tech stocks to the broader market.
