Apple has revised its App Store age rating policy to enhance protections for minors. AI virtual companion apps that include dating and social networking features, as well as sexual and romantic interactions, will now be mandatorily rated 18+. Sensitive features such as location sharing will also factor into rating determinations. Starting November 16, a new questionnaire will be available on App Store Connect, and developers must complete their declarations by January 12, 2027—or their apps may be unable to update or could be temporarily removed from the store.
