Cat Wu, former product lead for Claude Code, has left Anthropic to join OpenAI, where she will oversee core product management. Within less than two weeks, three core members of the Claude Code project have departed in succession. In addition to Cat Wu, they include engineer Thariq Shihipar, who contributed to the development of features such as Agent, and engineer Anthony Morris, who built the desktop version of Claude Code. Cat Wu was instrumental in helping Claude Code grow from a niche experimental tool within Anthropic into a globally leading AI programming product. She brings a combined background as an engineer, investor, and product manager, and previously briefly moved to another company alongside Claude Code creator Boris Cherny before returning to Anthropic. This personnel shake-up comes at a time when Anthropic is on the verge of going public. Although Anthropic's overall core talent turnover rate stands at only about 1%, the concentrated departure of core members from a flagship product has nonetheless drawn attention. In the AI era, talent mobility is becoming increasingly frequent, and whether Claude Code can sustain its previous rapid iteration capability now faces a new test.
