Anthropic engineer Adi Othmani announced that Claude Opus 5.5's game development restrictions have been adjusted in Claude Code version 2.1.317. Previously, the model had added rules to avoid replicating others' game works, which sparked discontent among developers—even when users only referenced existing games for gameplay inspiration, development tasks could still be rejected. With the adjustment, users can now reference existing games to describe gameplay and mechanics and develop original games of the same genre; however, if they explicitly request direct copying of the original work, the model will still refuse and suggest developing an original game with a similar experience.
