BRUSSELS, Nov. 5 — The European Commission unveiled its 2027 work programme on November 4, aiming to boost the EU's economic competitiveness through measures such as deepening the single market, lowering energy costs and reducing administrative burdens, while also strengthening defence and security, improving social welfare, tackling climate change and expanding international cooperation. The plan includes coordinated responses to high energy prices, the removal of single market barriers, the establishment of a European critical raw materials company, improvements to the savings and investment union proposal, and the rollout of an AI application blueprint to promote AI use in healthcare, transport, agri-food, manufacturing, defence and space. On the defence front, the Commission will continue to scale up defence investment, advance defence industry cooperation between the EU and Ukraine, and bolster Europe's defence capabilities.
