On November 3, UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said that a serious cybersecurity incident is "highly likely" to hit the UK in the near future. He noted that neither UK government agencies nor private enterprises are adequately prepared for potential cyberattacks, warning that "the threat is imminent, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities are highly likely to emerge in both the public and private sectors." As AI models grow more capable and external threats intensify, European politicians have voiced concerns about the rise in cyberattacks. UK cybersecurity chief Richard Horne warned the same day that UK businesses and supply chains suffer from "deliberate blindness" when it comes to dealing with threats from Russia and Iran. On Monday, multiple supermarkets across Europe were hit by suspected cyberattacks; Horne said the incidents affected several UK companies, and a similar incident occurred in France last month.
