Tencent Hunyuan has launched Hyra 2.0, its AI research system, marking a shift in R&D focus: rather than directly applying AI to tackle scientific challenges, the team is now steering general-purpose agents to participate in the R&D and upgrading of scientific models, research workflows, and software tools. This approach enables the reuse of results and drives a paradigm shift in scientific research—from "solving problems" to "building tools"—creating an intelligence compound effect. Previously, Hyra 1.0 propelled open-source models to solve an open problem in additive combinatorics that had remained unresolved for over fifty years, validating the feasibility of this path. Hyra 2.0 adopts a three-layer architecture with three separate storage mechanisms and can organize transferable methods into skills for direct invocation in subsequent tasks.
