South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said on Monday that the country will ramp up investment in artificial intelligence and other future growth engine industries to raise South Korea's potential economic growth rate and realize his proposed "shared growth for all" goal. He said total expenditure in 2027 will reach 820.9 trillion won—the largest fiscal investment in history, up 12.8%, marking the highest annual growth rate on record. The spending increase is intended both to match the higher living standards the public deserves and to strengthen the country's future competitiveness. Lee Jae-myung specifically noted that the government will invest 21.3 trillion won to advance three major key projects: building a semiconductor manufacturing cluster, constructing data centers, and developing physical artificial intelligence—a comprehensive push across the AI industry. In addition, 4.6 trillion won will be set aside separately for developing independent large models at the world's top level; 13.8 trillion won will be invested in ten major strategic technology fields to consolidate South Korea's competitiveness in frontier tracks and drive future economic growth.
