Authoritative data shows that as of October 31, 5,224 listed companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges had disclosed their Q3 2026 reports. In the first three quarters, these companies posted total operating revenue of 56.6 trillion yuan and net profit of 5.1 trillion yuan, up 5.8% and 8.5% year on year, respectively—both scale and growth rate hitting new highs since 2022. The rolling return on equity (ROE) stood at 7.9%, with 73% of companies reporting profitability. By board, net profit on the Shanghai and Shenzhen main boards grew 1.1% and 18.0% year on year, respectively, both registering positive growth; net profit on the STAR Market and ChiNext rose 474.6% (106.9% excluding Changxin Technology) and 22.7% year on year, respectively. Market analysts attribute the rapid earnings growth to three main drivers—the accelerated development of the AI industry, rising prices of upstream energy and resources, and strong export growth—and note that the profit increment of listed companies is shifting from traditional heavyweight industries to the new economy and globally priced segments.
