Just one day after announcing the results of its collaboration with six drug R&D institutions, Anthropic revealed that it is expanding its AI for Science program into fields such as astronomy, genomics, cancer research, climate science, and mathematics. The company is providing free Claude usage credits to 20 science foundations, research institutions, and research teams worldwide to support scientific research. Launched in May 2025, the program initially focused on biology and life sciences before gradually broadening its scope of support. In August this year, Anthropic raised the maximum amount a single research project can apply for to USD 50,000 and opened the first 10,000 free or discounted Claude Team seats. The program has previously supported hundreds of multidisciplinary research projects. The partners announced this time fall into three categories: research funding agencies and academic organizations, large research institutions, and specific research projects. Different types of partners obtain Claude resources through different channels. Anthropic also shared previous collaboration application cases involving two research institutions. Most of the relevant collaborations remain in early stages, and the specific usage credits and actual scientific research outcomes have not yet been disclosed, so their role in improving research efficiency remains to be verified.
