South African author Coral Hart has stirred up a storm by utilizing AI technology to publish an astonishing 371 books in just around 20 months. Since 2026, her cumulative sales have soared past one million copies, generating earnings exceeding one million US dollars. With a solid 14-year background in the publishing industry, Hart had already authored numerous works independently before venturing into AI-assisted creation. She dedicated three months to mastering various AI models and developing an efficient writing workflow.
Hart's literary creations are tailored to specific reader demographics, with a strong emphasis on romantic fiction. Several of her titles have even cracked Amazon's top 100 bestsellers list. During the writing process, Hart does not rely on directly using AI-generated content. Instead, she first outlines the core framework of her story, generates initial drafts through customized AI workflows, and then employs AI for multiple rounds of refinement and polishing. Finally, she conducts manual proofreading to eliminate any lingering traces of AI involvement.
However, Hart's AI-driven mass-production publishing model has not been without its critics. Some traditional authors and readers have accused her of lowering content quality standards in the publishing industry and intensifying market competition. As a result, Hart has been inundated with tens of thousands of abusive messages and has even faced death threats.
In response to the backlash, Hart points to her impressive sales figures as evidence of her works' popularity. She argues that reader approval indicates that her content meets certain market demands. To foster transparency, Hart has made her creative process public, hoping to encourage the publishing industry to embrace the changes wrought by AI technology. She views AI as merely a tool to enhance creative efficiency.
Currently, Hart also offers training services, imparting AI writing techniques to hundreds of authors. She plans to launch software specifically designed for AI writers, covering aspects such as writing workflows, content editing, and publishing operations, further solidifying her position as a pioneer in the AI-assisted writing landscape.
