On October 12, the UK government is planning to implement a mandatory safety reporting and monitoring program for frontier artificial intelligence (AI). Minister responsible for AI affairs, Kanishka Narayan, will call on technology companies to strengthen the management of autonomously operating AI models. According to the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the matter, Narayan pointed out in a speech on Monday that as companies develop more capable and autonomous AI models, more measures need to be taken to address potential risks and improve safety protection mechanisms. Sources also revealed that the UK government is considering legislation that would require companies to provide advance testing access to the UK AI Safety Institute, a globally leading testing body for frontier AI models, before releasing their latest AI models.
