Piyush Gupta, CEO of DBS Group, stated that the market is reassessing the investment risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure development, which may lead to more cautious financing in the AI sector. Gupta said on Monday that the market has provided its answer, with investors demanding higher returns and scrutinizing financing structures more carefully to ensure that the influx of funds into the AI capital expenditure ecosystem generates long-term returns, benefiting creditors, bondholders, or shareholders. He pointed out that weaker companies may face credit rating downgrades, but this risk repricing is 'healthy' as the market aims to ensure the sustainability of large-scale capital investments. This year, DBS has facilitated approximately SGD 25 billion (USD 20 billion) in AI-related transactions, mostly serving as the lead arranger for syndicated loans while retaining only a small portion of the risk exposure. Most of these financings have been directed toward hardware sectors such as semiconductors, memory chips, and data centers.
