Huang Kunming, the Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, recently embarked on a research visit to Shenzhen, where he made a stop at Tencent's headquarters. During this visit, he delved into Tencent's R&D advancements, its strategic industrial positioning in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI), and the transformative impact of digital technology innovation across diverse sectors. Huang Kunming commended Tencent for propelling steady growth through self-reliant innovation and highlighted that Guangdong Province would prioritize AI as a pivotal development domain for the 15th Five-Year Plan and subsequent periods. He encouraged Tencent to capitalize on this opportunity by amplifying its long-term investments in AI, harnessing its unique strengths, contributing to the establishment of Guangdong's AI infrastructure, bolstering its computational capabilities within the province (referring to the strategic arrangement or deployment of resources), advancing the utilization of both general and specialized large-scale AI models, and fostering the intelligent evolution of Guangdong's entire industrial ecosystem.

During the research symposium, a notable photograph capturing Tencent's founder, Pony Ma, seated beside Chief AI Scientist Yao Shunyu, ignited widespread public interest. Yao Shunyu, an alumnus of Tsinghua University's prestigious Yao Class and a 1998-born prodigy, pursued his doctoral studies at Princeton University. In 2024, he joined OpenAI to contribute to the development of several groundbreaking projects and is slated to commence his tenure at Tencent in December 2025.
