On October 8, during a routine press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed a report issued by a cybersecurity firm. The report alleged that an unknown attacker had employed an AI tool developed in China, guided by Chinese-language instructions, to launch a cyberattack on South Korean financial institutions, with the suspected origin traced to Guangdong province. Mao Ning indicated that she was not privy to the specifics of the case but underscored that China has consistently and lawfully opposed and counteracted hacking activities. Moreover, China firmly opposes the dissemination of false information for political motives. She highlighted the significant impact of artificial intelligence on cybersecurity and urged the international community to enhance collaboration, establish new norms, and work together to safeguard cybersecurity.
