On the 29th (local time), at the OpenAI DevDay conference in San Francisco, Altman unveiled a new AI agent product, Dots, and shared a wealth of insights. He posited that AI's impact will far exceed that of the Industrial Revolution. Rather than viewing AI merely as an economic accelerator, Altman emphasized its potential to empower humanity, aligning its development trajectory more closely with the spirit of the Renaissance. He criticized the reliance on tokens as a metric for gauging AI's worth, arguing that this method falls short of capturing its true value. Although OpenAI has contemplated abandoning this metric, the absence of a clear pricing framework for customers has thus far prevented this shift. Altman noted that Dots assists him in managing tasks and notifications, diminishing his reliance on smartphones and mitigating the 'brain fog' caused by information overload, thereby enabling him to reclaim some focus.

When it comes to AI safety, Altman believes that both the relentless pursuit of AI capability enhancement and a complete cessation of development are flawed approaches. Instead, he advocates for a balanced strategy that prioritizes safety guarantees while continuing to drive AI progress. Addressing concerns about employment among young people, Altman asserted that now is an opportune time to enter the job market. He argued that pessimistic forecasts of widespread unemployment fail to account for the future's economic growth potential, and that ambitious graduates are stepping into the job market at a historically favorable juncture.
