AI tools have seamlessly woven themselves into the fabric of daily internet use, and OpenAI is capitalizing on its vast user community to venture into fresh business territories. Not long ago, the company formally rolled out the 'Sign in with ChatGPT' identity verification service. This innovative offering enables third-party developers and enterprises to utilize ChatGPT accounts as a centralized authentication gateway. This strategic maneuver signifies OpenAI's official foray into the digital identity verification landscape, placing it in direct rivalry with tech behemoths like Google, Apple, and Microsoft.
The functionality is now accessible worldwide to all authenticated ChatGPT users. Among its initial collaborators are Airtable, GitLab, HubSpot, Notion, Supabase, and Vercel. When users log in, third-party apps will solely obtain the user's name, email address, and profile picture. They won't have access to conversation histories, memories, files, tokens, billing details, or any other account-related data. For enterprise users, the accessibility of this feature hinges on the configurations set by their organization's administrators.
