NVIDIA's CEO, Jensen Huang, has weighed in on the debate over AI model distillation, asserting that it is a manifestation of market competition. He emphasized that companies are within their rights to test products developed by their competitors, as such competition ultimately fosters industry growth and innovation. Huang further noted that if a company is averse to others utilizing its products, it has the option to discontinue the relevant services. However, this perspective stands in contrast to the stance taken by the White House, which has labeled such practices as theft. Earlier, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury also issued warnings about potential sanctions against overseas companies involved in related activities. Additionally, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, along with Anthropic, have leveled accusations against certain Chinese AI companies, alleging illegal distillation practices. These allegations, however, have been firmly rebutted by China.
