Chipmaker AMD has reached an agreement to acquire World Labs, an AI startup founded by pioneering AI researcher Li Feifei, in an all-stock transaction valued at $8.2 billion. The deal, expected to close by the end of 2026, is subject to regulatory approval. World Labs specializes in developing deep learning models capable of understanding physical reality, with its technology poised to strengthen AMD's competitiveness in the AI chip ecosystem. Upon completion, Li Feifei will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist.
