Nikhil Gupta, a former engineer who worked on Apple’s Siri and Apple Intelligence projects, has unveiled an innovative AI agent named “szn” designed to function seamlessly within iMessage conversations. This advanced agent is equipped to assist users with a range of tasks, including web browsing, online shopping, and even interacting with merchants on their behalf. By leveraging shared notes, Find My locations, and iCloud files, szn can extract and analyze data, enabling users to accomplish relevant tasks without ever leaving the iMessage interface. Each user’s szn operates with its own dedicated AI model, complete with a distinct name, email address, and phone number, allowing it to interact with external services as if it were an independent contact. Currently, szn has opened registration on its official website and is providing early access to a select group of users, with plans to broaden availability in October. However, the precise method by which szn integrates with iMessage remains ambiguous, and it is uncertain whether it will utilize an official channel akin to Poke, the first AI agent sanctioned by Apple to integrate with the Messages for Business platform. Historically, Apple has taken a firm stance against third-party, unofficial iMessage access services. Meanwhile, Apple is in the process of enhancing Siri’s AI capabilities, and OpenAI has also introduced a feature that enables the Mac version of ChatGPT to read iMessages, aiding in the generation of responses. Details regarding szn’s pricing strategy and the technical specifics of its iMessage connectivity solution have yet to be disclosed.
