Recently, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has rolled out its comprehensive development plan for the '15th Five-Year Plan' era, delineating clear objectives, tasks, and strategies for the forthcoming five years. With a keen focus on ascending to the commanding heights of scientific and technological innovation, the plan meticulously outlines the strategic priorities for scientific and technological development at CAS during this period. It systematically charts a course for addressing pivotal scientific and technological challenges across three key domains: fundamental research, strategic high-tech sectors, and sustainable development.

The plan underscores the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to amplify the capabilities of scientific research, fortifying the bedrock of scientific and technological infrastructure, and refining the geographical distribution of scientific and technological resources. Concurrently, centered on the aspiration to construct world-class research institutions, the plan unveils a suite of significant reform and development initiatives. These encompass the holistic integration of education, science, technology, and talent cultivation; the establishment of a national-level think tank for science and technology; the transformation of research organizational structures and management innovations; the facilitation of the transfer and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements; and the promotion of international scientific and technological exchanges and collaborations. Through these measures, CAS aims to proactively seize the strategic opportunities afforded by the burgeoning development of AI.
