Anthropic has unveiled a new feature called the ‘Grace Period Quota’ for Claude Code. When a user's usage hits the 5-hour weekly cap, the system won't abruptly cut off the service. Rather, it will reserve a set amount from the user's weekly quota, enabling Claude Code to finish the task currently in progress before halting. This feature comes with distinct constraints: it solely manages single-round tasks that are underway when the limit is hit, does not expand the overall usage allowance, offers no assurance that all tasks will be completed, and features varying permissions for different subscribers. It is accessible only to subscribers on designated platforms and, at present, does not cater to scenarios like API calls. Although this modification does not boost the total usage quota, it effectively tackles the prior problem of abrupt service interruptions, which frequently led to incomplete code alterations and necessitated manual corrections by users. Consequently, it enhances the user experience and has ignited lively debates among developers. This also underscores that for AI Agent products designed for extended operation, a well-considered shutdown mechanism is a vital element of their core functionality.
