On September 22, the Business, Innovation, Science, and Trade Committee of the UK Parliament announced that it had invited four companies—Meta, Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic—to participate in a hearing on AI safety issues scheduled for October 13. During the hearing, the committee will explore issues such as whether AI companies should be mandated to conduct pre-release safety testing, report significant safety incidents, and how to prevent competition from leading to a lowering of AI safety standards. The UK government's AI Safety Institute has also been invited to participate.
