At the 2026 Hangzhou Yunqi Conference, Wu Yongming, CEO of Alibaba Group, delivered a speech where he shared his distinctive insights into the age of machine intelligence. He posits that machines are gradually emerging as the primary entities engaged in thinking, and that intelligence is set to become a scalable resource, akin to how power became ubiquitous during the Industrial Revolution. He forecasts that the cumulative volume of machine-based thinking will vastly outstrip that of human cognition in the future, potentially exceeding it by more than a thousandfold. The transformative impact of this shift, according to Wu, will eclipse even that of the Industrial Revolution.

Wu Yongming also highlighted that, while the age of machine intelligence is starting to crystallize, its quintessential products are yet to materialize. He noted that current AI coding technology is comparable to the electric light bulb of 1882—still in its nascent stages of replacing existing human tasks. He underscored the three cornerstones underpinning the machine intelligence era: AI models, AI chips, and AI cloud.

At the conference, Alibaba unveiled its latest advancements and set forth ambitious objectives in these three domains:

• In the realm of AI models, the Tongyi Qianwen team has achieved a breakthrough in Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI) technology. They plan to scale up model parameters to a massive 5-10 trillion, paving the way towards Artificial Superintelligence (ASI).
• Regarding AI chips, T-Head introduced the high-performance, domestically produced AI chip Zhenwu V900. This chip boasts three times the computational prowess of its predecessor, can be scaled up to 500,000 cards in a single cluster, and is anticipated to witness a substantial surge in annual AI chip shipments.
• In the sphere of AI cloud, Alibaba will join forces with partners to fully commit to the construction of AI infrastructure. Their goal is to have the global data centers operated by Alibaba Cloud surpass a scale of 20 gigawatts by 2032.

Wu Yongming concluded his speech by asserting that the widespread adoption of machine intelligence will significantly liberate humanity. It will free individuals from strenuous tasks, enabling them to allocate more time, creativity, and appreciation for the beauty around them.
