As reported by TechCrunch, in the wee hours of September 22, OpenAI unveiled the creation of an autonomous advisory body, the Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence Advisory Panel, at the Institute for Advanced Study located in Princeton, New Jersey. The objective is to expand avenues for the mathematical community to engage in its mathematical research endeavors. The panel, consisting of nine mathematicians, functions autonomously from OpenAI and will act as a conduit between the mathematical community and the wider public, evaluating the significance of novel discoveries and orchestrating their dissemination. Panel members will not receive any remuneration, have the liberty to proactively propose ideas, and offer public commentary.
