On September 21, Nikkei reported that the Japanese government will team up with major machinery manufacturers to collect data for machine learning in physical AI applications such as autonomous robots. The project will enable cross-manufacturer data collection by assigning unique IDs to factory equipment. Japan aims to grow its AI robotics industry to 20 trillion yen (approximately $127 billion) by 2040, capturing over 30% of the global market share. Japan hopes to leverage its manufacturing strengths to provide high-quality data for machine learning, supporting the development of competitive domestically produced AI robots.
