The Anthropic economic team, in collaboration with scholars from MIT and Stanford, has released three economic scenarios for the year 2030. They have broken down U.S. Department of Labor jobs into micro-tasks and, based on the pace of AI technology adoption, outlined three distinct future scenarios: Under a moderate scenario, AI would act like an upgraded version of Office software, boosting GDP growth by 1.6% while leaving the labor market largely unchanged. In a significant scenario, AI would replace nearly half of all intellectual work, driving GDP growth by 8.3%. In this case, the development of the white-collar workforce would stagnate, while the blue-collar workforce would experience a resurgence. Under an extreme scenario, AI would take over the vast majority of intellectual labor, causing GDP to surge by 32%. However, white-collar unemployment would also skyrocket to 17.9%, with capital capturing 55% of the growth dividends. A survey of 10,000 Americans revealed that most expect the future to lean toward the significant or even extreme scenarios. The report points out that this wave of AI development will overturn traditional substitution logic, with purely cognitive jobs being more susceptible to AI takeover. Anthropic stated that it will promote relevant policy research to ensure that the benefits of AI are widely shared. Meanwhile, the report offers advice for ordinary people: they should abandon their faith in the processing of pure knowledge memorization, pay more attention to the physical world and genuine trust, and consider transitioning into asset and computing power owners.
