On September 18, 2026, ZCode, a coding assistant developed by Zhipu AI, sparked a controversy when it was discovered that its 'Codebase Indexing' feature—enabled by default—was uploading code data without users being fully informed. This particular function automatically uploads data when generating Repo Wiki pages. However, Zhipu AI officials clarified that the uploaded data would be promptly destroyed and not retained. As of now, the issue has been resolved, with the vulnerability fixed. In an effort to restore user trust, Zhipu AI has announced plans to enhance transparency by open-sourcing the codebase in the near future and inviting third-party independent audits. Additionally, the company is offering all users an extra weekly quota reset as a gesture of goodwill.
