The first lecture of the "Advanced Machine Learning" course, delivered by Tang Jie—a professor in Tsinghua University's Department of Computer Science and the founder of Zhipu AI—drew a full house, with the 112-seat classroom brimming with eager students. Although the course title remains the same, the 16-week curriculum has been entirely revamped to focus on cutting-edge areas such as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI). Tang Jie emphasized that the key priority for 2026 should be boosting model intelligence, enabling them to autonomously remember, evolve, and tackle complex tasks. The course demands a significant workload, serving as a rigorous screening process for students. They are required to undertake comprehensive, hands-on projects involving large models, starting from coding Tokenizers and Transformers from the ground up to training models with 0.1 billion parameters. Currently, Tang Jie holds the position of Chief Scientist at Zhipu AI. He established the company and has been instrumental in the development and deployment of the GLM series of large models. His previously conducted related training camps have also garnered widespread praise.
