The standardization competition in the AI industry has reached a turning point, as Anthropic has announced its support for OpenAI's Markdown instruction specification (AGENTS.md). This specification was initially co-developed by OpenAI and Google, aiming to unify configuration standards for AI programming tools and address the issue of ecosystem fragmentation. Previously, the high migration costs caused by inconsistent configurations across different tools have been a challenge. AGENTS.md provides a unified instruction standard, enabling developers to convey behavioral rules and project context to different AI models in a consistent format. With Anthropic's involvement, Claude Code has become compatible with AGENTS.md starting from version 2.1.277, allowing developers to switch file reading behaviors via /config. This change significantly reduces maintenance costs for multi-tool collaboration, driving the shift of AI coding Agents from tool preferences to codebase infrastructure and marking the formation of a cross-platform universal standard.
