On September 19, Reuters reported that OpenAI CEO Altman will present on artificial intelligence and international security issues to the UN Security Council during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in New York next week. The Security Council plans to hold an open meeting on this topic on Wednesday. A spokesperson for OpenAI stated that Altman will focus on introducing OpenAI's initiatives in ensuring AI safety and making technology universally accessible, as well as the necessity of promoting international coordination and establishing common safety standards. This meeting comes at a time when several AI industry figures are calling for coordinated efforts to slow down the development of advanced AI technologies, warning that the rapid advancement of AI capabilities could pose risks beyond human control. Altman has also long been concerned about AI risks; as early as 2015, he wrote that the development of superintelligent AI could be one of the greatest threats facing humanity.
