According to sources familiar with the matter, U.S. AI startup Anthropic has signed its first data center lease agreement in Australia. Leveraging the favorable local political environment and abundant new energy resources, the company has secured data center capacity that is set to become one of the largest computing facilities globally. The planned data center campus has a total capacity of 2.16 gigawatts, comparable to some of the world's largest operating data centers. The proposed facility, located on farmland approximately 250 kilometers from Brisbane, is scheduled to become operational in 2027.
