Chris Lane, OpenAI's head of global affairs, stated on Tuesday that the company is in favor of the crucial provisions outlined in the FRONTIER Act. The legislation, which was co-sponsored by Republican Representative Jay Obernolte and Democratic Representative Lori Trahan of the House, seeks to establish the inaugural federal-level framework for AI safety in the United States. It specifies that leading AI laboratories must permit "Independent Verification Organizations" (IVOs) to access their facilities and oversee the secure development of models. Lane disclosed that he had a meeting with the bill's sponsors on Capitol Hill on Monday, during which he unequivocally expressed his support for the IVO arrangement.
