On September 15, the 2026 Global Industrial and Commercial Rule of Law Conference convened in Haikou. At this significant event, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, acting on behalf of the industrial, commercial sectors, and the legal fraternity, unveiled the Declaration of the 2026 Global Industrial and Commercial Rule of Law Conference. Peter Van den Bossche, the former President of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization, underscored the urgency of forging an international consensus to mitigate the potential harms that artificial intelligence (AI) applications could inflict on individuals and enterprises alike. He stressed that AI applications come with a multitude of risks, necessitating a combination of domestic and international regulatory frameworks, as numerous issues have already transcended the regulatory capacity of any single nation.
