iOS 27 has been officially released, and developers have uncovered that Apple has introduced a new private interface known as Model Delegation within the system. This interface enables Siri to delegate cognitive tasks to third-party AI systems. Demonstrations reveal that AI models like Claude, GPT-5.6 Terra, and others can be seamlessly integrated. In this configuration, the third-party AI is tasked with generating ideas, while Siri manages device permissions, app invocation, and other execution-related operations.
Previously, Apple had shelved plans to revamp Siri using Claude due to cost considerations, opting instead to collaborate with Google and adopt Gemini. However, a Claude integration option has now surfaced in the system. Apple's strategy doesn't revolve around owning the most advanced AI model; rather, by maintaining control over user interaction entry points and device permissions, it aims to position itself as a central hub in the AI landscape, fostering competition among various AI models for reasoning tasks.
