Recently, the discourse surrounding whether the development of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence should be deliberately decelerated has grown more heated. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, publicly urged the entire AI sector to reduce the speed at which it augments the capabilities of sophisticated models. This stance was subsequently endorsed by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and Elon Musk, CEO of xAI. However, David Sacks, a prominent tech investor in the United States and the chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, took issue with this viewpoint. He contended that if OpenAI and Anthropic genuinely perceive the current trajectory of AI development as perilous enough to warrant a slowdown, they ought to curtail their own research and development endeavors instead of imposing additional prerequisites such as industry-wide coordination, antitrust exemptions, or government approval frameworks.
