He agrees with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's viewpoint that while transitioning to safety requires a cost, it is necessary to maintain public confidence in U.S. companies' responsible development of powerful AI. Altman emphasized in his post that competitive pressure faced by the U.S. should not be a reason for reckless development or allowing capabilities to surpass alignment and oversight. He pointed out that 'slowing down' does not mean 'stopping.' Not long ago, Amodei and SpaceX AI leader Elon Musk also made a rare joint call to slow down AI development. Earlier this month, Altman revealed to OpenAI employees that the company is willing to slow down the progress of cutting-edge technologies to better understand the risks. He also confirmed that OpenAI will not go public in 2026 and will prioritize addressing safety-related issues.
