Microsoft is steadily refining its approach to Microsoft 365 Copilot, shifting from an exclusive reliance on OpenAI models to embracing a broader array of third-party AI models. After integrating Anthropic's Claude model, Microsoft has now brought the Grok model from SpaceX's xAI into the fold. At present, the Grok model is being gradually deployed within Copilot for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. However, it is currently in a limited preview phase and remains inaccessible to Microsoft Frontier customers in the EU, EFTA member countries, or the UK. To utilize this feature, enterprises must have their IT administrators enable it through the online service subprocessors list. Microsoft subjects all third-party AI models integrated into Copilot to stringent testing and evaluation. Whether Microsoft will introduce AI models from China in the future is a development worth monitoring.
