The leaders of three AI giants—Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX—have rarely joined forces to call for a slowdown in artificial intelligence development, amid a series of AI runaway incidents and doomsday warnings. On Saturday, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a blog post stating that the current pace of advancement in frontier AI models has far outstripped humanity's ability to understand and control them, thus urging the global AI industry to voluntarily slow down. He emphasized that it is essential to decelerate the rate of enhancing AI model capabilities to allow for the wise utilization of the time gained, ensuring that safety research can keep pace with technological progress. This call was swiftly supported by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, both of whom agreed on the need to slow down AI development.
