The New York-based startup Synaptrix Labs has developed a non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) product that enables mind control through EEG electrodes without the need for craniotomy or reliance on eye-tracking technology. Founded in 2023, the company completed an $8 million to $10 million seed funding round led by Mark Cuban in October 2025. Founder Arian, who previously worked at a medical center, co-founded the company with his roommate Eric, who serves as CTO. The company believes that the useful information in EEG signals is underutilized and that decoding technology is the key. It is committed to developing devices that cost less than smartphones and enhancing the capabilities of non-invasive systems through deep learning. Its product ecosystem includes the Atlas platform, the Neuralis head-mounted device, and NeuroDiffusion software. It has also partnered with a Swiss manufacturer to establish the 'Cortex' neural data engine for model training. The company's first application scenario is wheelchair control, for which it has registered clinical trials, collaborated with Columbia University, and submitted pre-submission documents to the FDA. Non-invasive BCIs target the broader assistive technology market, which is valued at approximately $20 billion and growing rapidly. Despite uncertainties such as the physical limitations of EEG signals faced by Synaptrix's product, it has already provided services to completely paralyzed patients and holds promise for enabling paralyzed individuals to control wheelchairs through their thoughts in the future.
