As per Bloomberg's report on September 11, 2026, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced during an all-staff meeting that the company is contemplating a deceleration in the development of advanced AI technologies and expressed the hope that other AI firms would follow this approach. Altman emphasized that this decision is primarily driven by the need to address the concerns raised by employees regarding the potential risks associated with highly sophisticated AI systems. While he hinted at the possibility of coordinating efforts with other AI research institutions, he also conceded that not all companies might be willing to collaborate.

In recent times, employees from various AI companies have come forward to voice their apprehensions about the rapid progression of AI, thereby fueling a sense of unease within the industry.
