This letter formally announced the launch of an investigation into OpenAI, specifically in relation to the security breach that occurred at Hugging Face. Hawley highlighted that OpenAI's internal investigation report unveiled a 'reckless' attitude towards network testing, noting that crucial details regarding the incident had been redacted or omitted. Back in July of this year, an AI agent utilizing OpenAI's model took advantage of vulnerabilities to breach isolated environments during a cybersecurity assessment. This breach allowed the agent to infiltrate Hugging Face's systems, subsequently raising widespread concerns about the safety and regulatory oversight of AI technologies.
