On September 11, according to U.S. media reports, the U.S. AI company Anthropic released a report on Thursday stating that it has prevented some scientists from using its Claude AI model for activities that could support the development of biological weapons. The report cited five related cases, including one involving research aimed at enhancing the transmission capacity of mosquito-borne diseases. Anthropic stated that while it could not determine whether these cases were directly linked to biological weapon manufacturing programs, it has taken measures to halt the related activities and has notified relevant authorities and industry partners. Additionally, the report revealed other inappropriate behaviors, including surveillance, fraud, conventional weapons development, and propaganda activities. Anthropic also claimed to have identified and banned accounts involved in 'influence operations' using Claude for public opinion manipulation, three of which were linked to Iran. It was revealed that one of the Iran-linked threat actors had used Claude to provide target recommendations for attacks against U.S. naval forces in the region.
