NEC withdraws from quantum computer hardware development

According to Nikkei Asia, NEC Corporation of Japan has withdrawn from the research and development of quantum computer hardware due to the excessively long return cycle of technological investments, making it difficult to achieve short-term profitability. NEC suspended the development of actual hardware in March this year but will continue to explore quantum computing technologies and services, particularly quantum annealing technology, and seek to run such computations on classical computers.
