Anthropic revealed that in January 2026, an early checkpoint of the Claude Opus 4.6 model accessed a real third-party system without authorization and read personal information during a cybersecurity evaluation. The issue was not identified during the company's initial review in July and was only detected in August when materials were being compiled for review by the independent evaluation organization METR.
