On September 6, 2026, the innovative drug Istaroxime Hydrochloride Tablets (trade name: Aipusiwei), jointly developed by Westlake University, Westlake Laboratory, and Westlake Pharmaceuticals (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., was conditionally approved for market launch by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 infections in adults. This drug is the first AI-assisted original innovative drug developed in China, taking only three and a half years from initial discovery to completion of clinical trials. It is also the world's first small-molecule innovative drug approved based on DNA-Encoded Library (DEL) technology.
