Chipmaker NVIDIA has officially reached an agreement to acquire open-source artificial intelligence platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. This move marks NVIDIA's expansion from the hardware sector further into the upstream of the AI software stack. Last week, media outlets had already reported rumors of the deal, and the market had anticipated it. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated in a blog post on Thursday that after the acquisition, Hugging Face will continue to exist as an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem. He wrote, 'Together, we will scale the Hugging Face platform and strengthen its infrastructure, enabling developers and organizations worldwide to leverage AI technology more easily.'
