Zhipu has officially inaugurated its flagship store on Tmall, offering the GLM Coding Plan package at prices mirroring those on its official website. While some perceive this as an indication that large model services are poised to be marketed to individual consumers akin to fast-moving consumer goods, Zhipu's initiative is primarily aimed at amplifying its value proposition. AI applications, at their core, are tools, and their potential for monetization among individual consumers remains uncertain. For example, the paid subscription rate for ChatGPT is below 5%, and Zhipu's Tmall store reported zero sales of its packages within the first 12 hours of its launch. At present, the majority of token package purchasers are individuals operating as the smallest production units, yet ideally, the cost should be shouldered by enterprises. However, some business owners are not fully aware of this dynamic. Zhipu experienced significant revenue growth in the first half of the year, accompanied by a strategic pivot in its revenue mix, notably elevating the share of API service revenue. By establishing a foothold on Tmall, Zhipu is effectively promoting its API business to a target audience that includes small and medium-sized teams as well as solo entrepreneurs.
